It's possible that ChatGPT will soon remember things you say to it between calls. OpenAI said earlier this week that it is testing a way for the AI robot to have "long-term" memory that will allow it to remember things between conversations.
The tool is currently only available to a small group of ChatGPT users. However, OpenAI says it will remember things like how you like your meeting notes to be summed up or if you told ChatGPT that you own a corner store. It will then be able to remember this data and use it to give you better answers when you ask it certain questions.
OpenAI is giving users a lot of power with this new tool, which is a good thing. In ChatGPT, you can change how it looks and works by going to Settings > Personalization > Memory. ChatGPT won't remember things you tell it not to when you turn it off. You can also see and get rid of certain memories or get rid of them all at once.
According to OpenAI, the goal is for ChatGPT memories to change based on your interactions without being tied to specific talks. A deleted older chat won't get rid of the memories that ChatGPT has of it either, so people who like cleaner talks won't have to worry about keeping old conversations for too long.
The Temporary Chat, which OpenAI describes as something like an incognito window, lets you have a chat with ChatGPT that doesn't record anything if you'd rather leave memory on. This conversation won't be saved in your past, won't use any of your memory, and won't be used to train any of OpenAI's models.
You can also instruct ChatGPT exactly what information about you you want it to remember and even how you want it to reply. According to OpenAI, giving users these options is how it keeps its privacy and safety standards up to date with ChatGPT's progress.
Do not forget that various ChatGPT apps can also change how your data is utilized, so always keep that in mind.
