After a split, you can stop your phone from reminding you of bad times.
Some people who have broken up with their partner may wish their phone wouldn't keep telling them of them. Most new phones have photo albums that automatically make lots of cool collages and slideshows. This is great when the memories are happy, but it can be upsetting after a painful breakup. I've written before about how to get rid of photos of your ex from your iPhone. This guide will show you how to do the same thing with an Android phone.
It's important to know that different Android phone makers use different versions of the picture gallery app. There may be different ways to hide or get rid of your ex's photos in those apps, so I'll focus on Google Photos, which comes with most Android phones sold in the U.S. Most Android users choose this service to back up their photos. It's too bad that it doesn't let you delete all photos of a certain person at once, but there are some clever ways to quickly hide your ex's pictures.
You can hide someone from Google Photos
On Google Photos, go to the top right corner and tap the personal picture. This will hide all photos of that person from your camera roll. "Go to Photos settings > Preferences > Memories > Hide people and pets". This will show you a grid of all the people and pets that can be spotted in your pictures. You can choose which people or pets you want to hide, and then you won't see their pictures in Google Photos' memories or other highlights.
You can hide from Google Photos pictures taken on a certain date
You can also make memories in Google Photos based on certain times in the year. People may suggest that you watch slideshows of your anniversary with an ex-spouse, birthday parties, or other important events in your life. You can also stop Google Photos from making these memories. "Go to Profile icon > Photos settings > Preferences > Memories > Hide dates" . If you tell Google pictures which dates you don't want to include in the memories it makes, it will not include any pictures from those days.
Save all the pictures of a certain person
Use the Archive tool in Google Photos if you're sure you don't want to see any pictures of your ex but don't want to delete them. This will put those pictures in a different place so the service can't add them to any new memories it makes. To do this, go to Google Photos and hold down on any picture of your ex. Scroll down and click on each picture you don't want to see until you've seen them all. To save your work, swipe right on the menu at the bottom and choose Archive.
Get rid of all of your ex's pictures
This is the most extreme choice, but it takes a lot more work to do in Google Photos than on an iPhone. To get rid of all the pictures of your ex for good, you'll have to pick them out one by one and click the "Delete" button at the bottom of the screen. They will still be in the Bin folder. To get to it, open Google Photos and go to the Library tab. Then, choose Bin. After 60 days, deleted pictures are gone for good.
