Since the end of 2022, AI has grown a lot. One reason for this is that a lot of it has been free to use. Anyone can try out Google's AI bot Gemini (formerly known as Bard) or sign up for ChatGPT for free. This means that everyone can experience the AI hype for themselves.
Free, on the other hand, doesn't pay the bills, and AI does. It takes a lot of computer power to run generative AI, so the companies that are working on it are all looking for ways to make money. ChatGPT has a "Plus" membership that gives you access to more tools and power. Midjourney, an AI art generator, has different packages with different prices.
This time, Google is joining the crowd. The company revealed that it planned to give customers "Bard Advanced" during its Q4 earnings call. Bard Advanced is actually Gemini Advanced, and you can get it now if you're ready to pay.
What does Gemini Advanced mean?
It's getting harder to understand what Google's AI services are all about, so here it is: This is what Google's AI bot used to be called. It's now called Gemini. That is the tool you use to talk to Google's AI, look with generative AI, or make pictures. Gemini is basically what Google's ChatGPT is.Gemini used to be the name of the thing that makes the AI bot work: It's Google's LLM, and it has three levels. The level that runs the free version of Gemini is Pro 1.0. It looks like it's strong and smart enough to handle most simple jobs you give it. After that, there's Nano 1.0, which runs the AI on Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro.
Ultra 1.0, the third level, is the most powerful version of Google's LLM. Gemini Advanced though, runs on it. Google states that Ultra is "designed for highly complex tasks and built to quickly understand and act on different types of information—including text, images, audio, video, and code." It also says that it is better than this model in most testing areas when compared to OpenAI's best models, such as GPT-4.
Advanced is what Google thinks will work best for, well, advanced users who want an AI system that can help them with hard coding problems, have deeper talks, or even make practice tests on a certain topic.
What is the price of Gemini Advanced?
You will have to pay $19.99 a month for Gemini Advanced if you think it will help you. That means the price of Gemini Advanced is the same as the price of ChatGPT Plus. Google is adding Gemini Advanced to its "AI Premium Plan," though, so when you sign up for Google One, you'll also get other benefits, like 2TB of cloud storage. There is also a free sample that lasts for two months, so there is no reason not to try Advanced if you're interested. You can end the trial before it ends if you don't find $20 worth of perks.
All of this doesn't mean that Google's AI will no longer be free. There is a free version of ChatGPT that works with ChatGPT Plus. The same will be true for Gemini and Gemini Advanced. Google's free Gemini service is all you need if you don't want to pay for a more powerful version of Bard with more tools. You can use Google's AI on the web, from the new Android app, or from the Google app on iOS, whether you pay for Gemini Advanced or for free.
